Research at Learning as Leadership is focused on the understanding human behavior and potential through in-depth experimentation by faculty at some of the nations top universities, including Maxie Maultsby, Jennifer Crocker, Robin Ely, Debra Meyerson, Harry Spence and other members of the Academic Advisory board.

25 years of Research, Training and Consulting
Learning as Leadership’s program has evolved from 25 years of empirical research, experimentation, facilitation, coaching and consulting. Originally developed by Claire Nuer (see page about us), the LaL methodology is aligned with and built upon the work of a number of other pioneers and researchers in related fields. Professor Maxie Maultsby, PhD, the creator of Rational Behavior Therapy, and Peter Senge, PhD, MIT professor and author of “The Fifth Discipline” are two of many collaborators of note that influenced the constant refinement of this very comprehensive study of human behavior and potential.

Influencing Academic Research
Intrigued by the original and powerful concepts of this work, a number of scholars and researchers at the cutting edge in their field have approached LaL to incorporate it in their writing and research, often expanding the direction and nature of decades of their work.

Moving into University Classrooms
Many of these academics -- from such universities as Harvard Business School, Stanford University and University of Michigan – are collaborating with LaL to integrate these concepts into the curriculum they teach to MBA and PhD students.

Consult our Academic Advisory Board
Learning as Leadership's Academic Advisory Board comprises a body of trusted advisors and scholars from various academic disciplines who combine their work with LaL's internal research to create cutting edge practices in the field of human development.

As Susan Ashford, Professor at the Michigan Business School and LaL graduate, explains, “These tools aim at preparing my students to lead from their best self, with awareness of their self-limiting behaviors, greater capacity to learn and grow, and a deeper sense of connection to a larger purpose. They will be empowered to go out and make a difference in the lives of those they lead and those who work with them.”

Ever-green Research Process
The LaL methodology is a constantly evolving body of work, driven by a think tank of researchers and practitioners. Drawing from participant insights, corporate consulting, interaction with other researchers and thinkers, as well as a demanding regimen of staff experimentation, the facilitation and design team integrate insights and research directions, ensuring ever-sharper tools and concepts and offering the greatest possibility for change and growth.
