Raising Issues Constructively

On-site Leadership Class

Duration: 2 days

There is a drought of direct and constructive dialogues in today's organizations. It is not a skill we are taught, therefore issues, misunderstandings and personality clashes typically go unaddressed or become disproportionately destructive. Evolution of our organizations happens greatly through relationships, and until we master our capacity for this type of dialogue, we will under-utilize the powerful potential of people and their ability to deal effectively with the difficult aspects of projects. Participants will learn to resolve conflicts and address tension-filled topics in a healthy and effective fashion.

The course further teaches that it is insufficient to simply raise issues, but that it is crucial to do so constructively, with a goal of learning and dialogue, in order to nurture an environment conducive for others to have open and honest communication.

Making Others Good

On-site Leadership Class

Duration: 2 days

One of the most significant impediments to productive collaboration in organizations whether between individuals, small work teams, or large divisions is that of "Us vs. Them" dynamics. Blame, scapegoating and resentment reinforce silos as communication and cooperation diminish and human potential is vastly sub-optimized. Participants will discover how this common mechanism works and how they inadvertently contribute to these dynamics.

Through a combination of conceptual frameworks, experiential exercises and first-hand examination of real situations, participants examine how these tensions are actually opportunities for personal growth, mutual understanding, improved communication and deepened collaboration. A practical process for shifting tense relationships further provides the foundation for enabling participants to create this change. They learn instead how to Make Others Good a powerful leadership concept and practice for breaking new ground in their organization.

Embracing Learning

On-site Leadership Class

Duration: 2 days

Being in a learning mode remains one of the most essential yet challenging skills to acquire and practice. It is key to fostering individual development, to creating high-performing, responsive and flexible teams, to grooming the next generation of leaders, and to best accomplishing projects and responsibilities.

Too often, we miss the genuine learning from our mistakes and therefore risk repeating those mistakes or failures at an individual and organizational level. Participants will discover that learning involves the proactive process of seeking growth in these very places in order to enhance organizational and individual performance.

Coupled with LaL's 360º Written Feedback Assessment, this class leads participants through an analysis of their feedback. They use the concepts and techniques of the session to constructively and honestly assimilate the assessment, furthering their capacity to learn outside of their "comfort zone." Furthermore, participants will draw on LaL's unique root cause analysis framework to understand more deeply why they behave as they do. - and consequently build a customized developmental plan they both own and have tools to reach.

Put into practice, our learning path is the first step in creating an environment of learning.

Working Strategically

On-site Leadership Class

Duration: 2 days

When fire-fighting rules the day, there is little time to delegate and even less clarity on what should be delegated. Even when we do ask for help, how often do we end up doing the task ourselves because the other person is late or not doing it the way we want it done?

This course combines the organizational work of Working Strategically with the communication skills of Raising Issues Constructively. Participants will learn the tools to organize the work and responsibilities of their reports, more effectively delegate new levels of work, and hold others accountable in a firm yet constructive fashion.

Application Day

On-site Leadership Training

Duration: 1 day

Improving our responses to events and developing more productive dynamics with others are not accomplished with a recipe. There is always a gap between what we have decided to improve upon and what we are able to apply.

All this is normal and to be expected. The Practical Application day will focus on the real life difficulties that you faced in applying the lessons and tools from the last session. What worked? What didn't? What challenges did you run into?

This session is designed to help you:

  • anchor what you learned in the previous class,
  • apply these learnings more effectively
  • acquire additional tools and insights.
